Protecting Paraguayan soil since 2018 — and, since then, soil in other countries too
Ece — Empresa de Control de Erosión was founded in 2018 on a simple idea: in Paraguay there were companies selling geosynthetics and companies building, but no one doing both and answering for the result.
Eight years on we have protected more than 4,000,000 m² of soil —404 hectares— across 27 projects: river defences on the Paraguay and the Pilcomayo, a thousand kilometres of road slopes in the Chaco, bridge abutments, treatment plants and industrial yards.
We design the solution, source the material, supervise the installation, train the contractor's crew and, when needed, carry out the work ourselves with our own crew, tools and machinery.

The concrete mattress that lines the bank of the Paraguay River did not arrive in a container: it was made in the city of Pilar, at our plant, on our own looms.
That changes two things a design engineer cares about. The first is the lead time: we do not depend on a shipment to get started. The second is the fit: the panels are cut and sewn to the geometry of that project, not the other way round.
It is domestic manufacturing applied to an engineering project, and it is the part of our story we have told the least.
The point is not the list of countries. It is that the international manufacturers we represent call on us to solve problems where they cannot reach.
Design and site supervision for the lining of a canal with encapsulated concrete mattress: panels of 34 to 35 metres, 50 cm anchors, up to six concrete trucks a day and winds of 30 to 40 km/h.
The crew did not exist and we trained it ourselves: thirteen installers —five from India and eight from Uganda— trained with the ILUO method until they could work independently on site.

Peru, Colombia and Ecuador were technical support engagements, not projects executed by Ece. Abu Dhabi was ours: design, site supervision and crew training.
