The problem

Pilar sits on the bank of the Paraguay River. Every flood eroded the shore and undermined the town's defence; the problem was not only the water level but the waves hitting the slope.

The solution

The town was protected with a 150 mm articulated, encapsulated concrete mattress, pumped on site along 15 km of waterfront. The panels were sewn in our Pilar plant, cut to each stretch, with no dependence on shipping.

The result

Today the waterfront is a public space three hours from Asunción. The works also included a 14 km diversion channel with revegetated slopes, drainage channels and the protection of culverts and bridges.
